Yes he was very foolish and he could have killed others, but he killed his own daughter a thing he will have to live with for the rest of his life, isn't that bad enough?

Surely banning him from driving for the rest of his life, would have been a more appropriate sentence?

He was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

so yes he does deserve to be in jail, miracle that more weren't killed.

Wholly deserved. He risked his own kids' lives and one of them paid with theirs.
A car is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands. And his were the wrong hands.

Someone died because of his recklessness. The victim being his daughter is irrelevent.

A prison sentence is deserved.
What will be gained by this man going to prison I wonder ? But he did commit a serious offence . sad .
rushing to a maths lesson, unbelievable.
1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Aswell as.....not 'instead of'.
No it's entirely pointless, expensive, futile and destructive. The fact he killed his own child is punishment enough, he will never get over that. Prison is about rehabilitation- I don't think he'd an habitual criminal, and about punishment- I think he's being punished enough. A strong community sentence and a lifetime driving ban would have been more appropriate imho. I think this is cruel and futile.
Yes. It wasn't just foolish or an accident, he was apparently driving like a maniac. For the daughter and her mother, a ban would be an insult by itself.
As others have said, yes I think it was deserved.

Let this be a lesson to others, that you have to be super-cautious when you have kids in the car.

I would think at a time like this, the mother and their other daughter would rather have their husband and dad around them at this tragic time, rather than him being away from them in prison.
yeah I think kvalidir is correct no point jailing the bloke he's already punished himself enough, should have got a suspended sentence, not point in punishing the rest of his family further. Tragic mis judgement, I wonder what was so vital about the maths lesson.
I have to agree with Tora and AOG. A suspended sentence would have been a good thing.
Perhaps New Judge can come along and tell us what the sentencing guidelines are for cases such as this....he is always reliable !
Mikey, I'm sure if you wish to know that information it will be available online.
I wouldn't Aog. I'd never forgive him. I can't speak for her though.
Anne....NJ supplied similar information about a case yesterday and explained it in his normal clear manner.
I am sure he will oblige again.
AOG hasn't asked for the guidelines, he has asked for our opinions.

I am always cautious about giving my thoughts - the word 'deserve' is unsettling - I feel the sentence was somewhat inevitable.

As said he will be reliving that moment forever, as will his family.
The effect on his life is irrelevant. For the crime he committed he deserved a gaol sentence.

Are you saying if he had killed a child that wasn't his own, then he should be jailed but as it was his child he shouldn't?

IMO ... Yes, he should be jailed.

Yes, he deserved a prison term.

Better to be 10 minutes late than 40 years too early.
