Omega 3

Does anyone know whether it is necessary to take Omega 3 capsules as well as Cod Liver Oil or do they do the same thing?

Assuming a healthy diet, it should never be necessary to take any form of supplements (unless prescribed by a doctor because of a medical condition).

However cod liver oil contains more than just Omega 3:

Thanks Chris. I have been diagnosed with macular degeneration and the doctor at the hospital told me to take PreserVision and said Omega 3 might help. Neither of these is on prescription so I have to pay for them. I just wondered which would be the best. I am taking the PreserVision but don't want to take too many pills as I am already being kept alive by prescription pills. However, any port in a storm and if it will delay the symptoms from getting any worse, I will take anything (well almost anything).
If you fancy some reading-there seem to be a lot of studies regarding Omega 3 and macular degeneration.

(Thanks for your reply, BTW).
Starby......the benefits of high dosage vitamin supplements in the treatment of age related macular degeneration is not well established clinically.

However given the choice as highlighted in your question i would take Omega 3 1,000mgms dailly.

As Buenchico has pointed out Cod liver Oil contains added compounds and if you prefer them, that would seem a satisfactory choice.

IO would hesitate to take them both together...........

Thanks for all the help you have given me. I have been reading through the links and decided I will do everything I can to delay it, but looks as if I have to put up with gradually worsening eyesight. I do not like this, obviously, as I like to read, watch tv, in fact lots of things which involve sight but I shall have to try and adjust to it when it finally occurs. Not likely to be overnight by the look of it. I have also made an appointment with the optician to see if they can make any improvement in my sight at the moment. I find it very difficult to read small print (even impossible in some cases). Anyway, thanks again everyone, I knew I could count on you.
