Secondary Hypertension

Re http://www.theanswerb.../Question1126206.html

My partner has now had blood, chest xray, MSU, 24hour urine, and kidney ultrasound results back, GP says that there are no tumors on his kidneys, and that all the results are within normal parameters when you look at them individually, but when you look at them all together then something is going on (very vague!). So he is now being referred to an endocrinologist.

His BP readings vary - mostly high end of 'normal' some high, he still feels awful everyday, headaches, light headed, face feels hot, tired, heart racing and dizzy.

Also GP metoned that the ultrasound showed that one kidney was larger than the other. Is that significant?

Any ideas about whats causing all this greatfully recieved.

Yes, extremely so.

Do you remember my answer to this same question in Health and Fitness Thur April 19th 2012?.Well the doctors are still excluding those group of 3 that I outlined.

My guess is that a Phaeochromocytoma of the adrenal gland needs to be excluded, but that should have shown up on blood and urine tests. These tumours are extremely rare but need to be excluded...almost all are benign.1in 10 being malignant.

The Endocrinologist may need to exclude Pituitary tumours, even rarer and for this he may need an MRI Brain scan.

Keep me informed....interesting.

thanks sqad, i thought the tests already done would've ruled those 3 out.

Why is the kidney size significant?
Because the Phaeo. arises from the adrenal gland which is situated on top of the kidney the scan may be showing the enlarged adrenal gland and the kidney as "one enlarged kidney"

Yes I agree the blood and urine tests should have excluded an adrenal tumour and a large kidney.
