Straight hedge

How do I make my hedge straight. It's bumpy and uneven looking and even when I trim it, it won't go straight unless I cut into the the thick branches.

Is this what I have to do? This may be a stupid question I know :-)

Tie a piece of string tightly along the hedge, and use it as a guide ??

Piece of string ... electric trimmer ... run it along the string.

Any thick branches ... go back to them with a saw.

I didn't claim to actually OWN a hedge trimmer, LOL.

But I do know that they look like a swordfish.

Although not as much like a swordfish as B00 would like.
