I remember a film from years ago which was a western and I thought it was a Big John film. All I really remember was that towards the end there was a big fight scene which took place in a mud hole and everyone was well covered.

The Quiet Man with John Wayne has a big fight scene in it betwee John Waynes character and his brother in law. Would that be it.

westbabes correct, its definitely Mc Lintock with the Duke and Maureen O' hara. Filmed in 1963.
