I'm just back from a long walk ,it's tipping it down .so not a pretty sight with waterproof gear on .usually meet some people at the shop getting out of the cars they don't hesitate to say are you all there , mad ,silly so and so out a morning like that .i often wonder if this is chance to for them to say something of an insult and this is an opening for them to do so .People would not say that under other circumstances .

get out of those wet clothes, you'll get pneumonia !

No wee - they would usually be on their mobile phones.
i enjoy walking in the rain if it's warm rain, perhaps it's just me

I love walking in the rain, but I ain't going out today :-(
The phone comment is silly. C&J I am only offering an opinion on what I see day in and day out.
I wouldn't necessarily regard that as an insult, life cannot draw to a halt with the onset of some heavy rain. you are wearing waterproofs so I cannot see the problem.
I rarely see anybody who isn't on their phone, even when they're driving. I haven't seen anyone riding a bike whilst on their phone ... yet!
Everyone is on their mobiles round here, even cars drivers, the Old Bill would have a field day if they actually patrolled this area.

Weecalf, you're in Britian, people always use the weather as an opener, I doubt any offence was meant, you'll probably find if you look hard enough though.
Just discussing the weather really wc. being friendly really I would have thought.

Some folks will find offence just about anywhere!!!
As Mae West said "I'd rather be looked over than over looked!", it is a typically British trait to use the weather as a conversation opener and I think it is nice that strangers are addressing folk rather than just ignoring one another.
It's a typical trait of the British weecalf, commenting on the the weather. And jennyjoan, I too see people all the time on their mobile phones whilst out walking.
I saw someone on their mobile whilst riding a horse the other day. Looked rather silly.
everyday people are sauntering around heads down not looking where they are going because they are too busy on mobile phones , so no not a silly comment at all !
I too frequently see people using phones when I'm out walking, which is just as well because sure as he!l they don't see me.
