The Story of English in 100 Words.

I have just received my daily update from a big bookseller and am really pleased to see that David Crystal has a new book about to be released.

I enjoy this kind of etymological literature and so will be putting this next book on my birthday list.

Are there any more David Crystal fans out there?

This looks like an advert and might be pulled. We'll see.

No, this isn't an advert, it's a AB-er recommendation - there's a difference, you're not going to benefit from the post yourself (unless, of course, you ARE David Crystal!)
I lent someone his Encyclopaedia and never got it back. Some day, when I'm feeling rich, I'll treat myself again.

No Boxtops, I'm Mrs.Tilly Christle
oh, are you any relation to Julie Christle?

I've got his big fat English Language book, which is very good. But he seems sometimes too crotchety to me - picking fights with other authors who don't agree with him. Keep your squabbles to the teachers' common room, chaps.

Jno, who's Julie Christle? Is that Linford Christle's sister?
Linford Christie went to join a golf club. The secretary said, I'm sorry, we're full up but there's another club 10 minutes down the road. Linford said, do you know who I am? I'm an Olympic 100 meters champion. The secretary said, oh well, in that case, it's 5 minutes down the road.

Yes indeed! I went to see a talk he gave last year on endangered languages.
Terry meets Julie, Waterloo Station, every Friday night...

Can I infer that his talk was on the English language, Mark?
Question Author
I love his 'The Stories of English' and 'The English Language,a guided tour.'
I hope you enjoyed his talk, Mark.
Does he have a really 'cultured' voice and look like a don?
