not sure where to post this question!! "Demonstrate consideration of the power differential between patients / clients, carers, professionals" this is a requirement for students but not sure what it means?????

what aspect don't you understand?

you obviously need to describe the relative power differentials (ie. how much infleunce and respect people have for your opinions etc) in your setting, and condider how these affect your nursing or other role!

i would start by positioning the people in a pyramid, and describe from there! professionals have their own sub-hierarchy too ... don't forget independent advocates if you mention mental health!

also pop 'power differential' into google ...

its not a question but a requirement for nursing students that needs addressing with an action plan so basically how would a student demonstrate that he / she knows and considers power differentials??

This sounds to me like part of the plan for patients to be involved in care planning etc "nothing about me, without me" - not all clinically driven.

what about an action plan showing

1) respect for the patient's existing beliefs and knowledge, balanced with new facts and opinions

2) respect for confientiality that includes the carers if desired

3) due respect for professional opinion in the care plan

???
