I just saw this on telly.

He really is a quite ghastly human being, isn't he.

Woss the link, then...?
Do you mean in appearance?

What will you look like at his age?
No one says it quite like Stephen IMO...

"The trouble with the Pope" he's Catholic! that says it all!!
This one is so different from the last one. Apparently there are thousands of unsold tickets for his visit. The last time (1978?) people were cramming into the places where Old Pope was visiting. Pope or not, the RC church has had bad press lately, I wouldn't go out of my way to see him.
His name is Ratzenberger or something isn't it. I wonder what sort of life they have. All the popes are look old and mechanical as if someone is pulling their strings.
They are old though aren't they, you have to be old to rise that far up the hierarchy - all those robes and gold and incense...

No, not in his appearance.

In his awful views, and dogma, and reinstating that Bishop Richard Williamson even though Bishop Williamson is a holocaust denier, and preaching that condoms actually INCREASE (!) the risk of HIV infection !!

(and that's without even mentioning his cover up of the rapist priests)
I've recorded it Jayne, so I'll comment after I've watched it tomorrow.

It's a bit of an "OMG" programme, Naomi.

You think ... hang on, this guy is supposed to give comfort, and compassion ...

... not spout off like some rabid loony.
Really? Rabid loony, eh? I'm intrigued. I'll definitely watch it tomorrow. :o)

I think you have to hand it to JPII - his views were just as reactionary, indeed Ratzinger was his head of Doctrine.

Somehow he still managed to dodge most bad publicity

He truely was the teflon pope
no he is the perfect Pope...opinionated, fixed in outdated doctrine, arrogant...what could be more perfect?

What a brilliant exposition by Stephen Fry
