What book is this?

I am trying to find the name of a book however I don't have very much info to go on. I read a review about it in a magazine a couple of months ago but have forgotten its name and author.

I think that the authors surname begins with a P and I believe he is known for having written a TV crime/thriller series eg The Wire or something similar?? The book is also a thriller and may have been a bestseller.

Sorry for how vague this all is, but all suggestions are welcome!

You're welcome :-D It was the P that did it! I was sure that one of Dennis Lehane's favourite writers has a surname starting with a P, so I actually googled Dennis Lehane to eventually arrive at Pelecanos...
