Come on Ed...Stop all this nonsense with Avatars.

Things are not going forwards but backwards.

My Avatar is now like a chess pawn.

Someone somewhere is playing games and I am not amused.

Ron.

I see your usual avatar - we've all fallen foul of the avatar-dragon in our turn - why get so steamed up about it. ron?

pretty good, thanks for asking. You inquired how your avatar got changed to one you didn't like and I gave an answer (blind chance); you also inquired why it differed from the one on your profile page, and I pointed to the explanation Chuck had already given.
Question Author
jno.....I can't fathom out Chuck's explanation. Perhaps you can enlighten me by your interpretation of his comments.

Ron.
Why can't you just accept what the Ed says, that the problem is with Gravatar. Your avatar isn't stored on AB it is stored on Gravatar and linked through to here.......obviously they are having problems.
Question Author
So every time I post into AB it has to be given an Avatar by Gravatar. Is that what is being suggested.? Why then does my Profile remain constant unless I alter it.?

Ron.
I did, Ron, straight after Chuck's answer, I think. (I can't go back and check without losing what I'm writing now.) But basically it was yes, Gravatar have set up a big avatar for profile pages and a smaller one for thread pages, and the two don't always operate in tandem, though of course they should. Not everyone's profile avatar remains constant; some change, without their thread page avatars changing at all. Just chance, that's all.
Question Author
Thanks jno for responding at such a late hour. I can't see that size matters.

Anyway, I am off to bed now and will sleep on my problem; which is really small, if the truth is to be known.:-) :-)

Ron.
Blimey..some Sainthoods deserved on this thread...
Craft, //the problem is with Gravatar. Your avatar isn't stored on AB it is stored on Gravatar //

But the avatar I was landed with wasn't stored on Gravatar. I'd never seen it before. That's what I can't understand.
"I can't see that size matters.".....hehehe!

<sorry>
I'm glad you said it B00, it's been praying on my mind :D

Naomi, have you changed your email and password to protect yourself? Dread to think you've been hacked somehow, as I remember you were most offended by the avatar. I have not seen the avatar in queestion tho.
Alba, No, I haven't changed anything. I can understand it happening if the rogue avatar is on a Gravatar account, but that one isn't on mine and never has been. As I said, I'd never seen it before. It's a complete mystery to me.
"I still remain at a loss to understand what is really going on."

This appears to the be the main issue! You'll have to trust us, or work it out! I suggest giving up posting about the issue until you've settled on one of these options!

"I can't fathom out Chuck's explanation."

Chuck's explanation is correct.
"But the avatar I was landed with wasn't stored on Gravatar. I'd never seen it before. That's what I can't understand."

They sent the wrong avatar.
I think it's called "flogging a dead horse", Ed...
I think you're only allowed to do that for the last furlong these days...
Haha...
Why do Ron's posts make me drift back in time to Ever Decreasing Circles ... that lovely Richard Bryers sit com...?
// They sent the wrong avatar. //

It's a risky business they're in firing random images at people. I hope they haven't got any swastika ones lying about.
so long as I don't end up with an Arsenal footie badge I will be ok
rofl at jno's response, she will know which one!
