Come on Ed...Stop all this nonsense with Avatars.

Things are not going forwards but backwards.

My Avatar is now like a chess pawn.

Someone somewhere is playing games and I am not amused.

I see your usual avatar - we've all fallen foul of the avatar-dragon in our turn - why get so steamed up about it. ron?

I really can't see what people get so wound up about regarding the occasional incorrect avatar, if it bothers people that much simply turn off your avatar all together.
These three urls show the same image in three sizes. Because the URLs contain a size as part of the identifier it is considered by Gravatar, AB and your browser to be a different image for each.

scrap the avatars, as it appears to be a daily problem,,,, jelly people for all !

This is because you know software is as flawed as it's makers. Others may believe that technology should be infallible.
The Technology I look after is infallible....

Mostly :)
"Let them have Jelly!" etc etc

Of course Chuck :)
// I really can't see what people get so wound up about regarding the occasional incorrect avatar //

It depends what it is chuck. If you were jewish and you received the aforementioned random swastika, you'd probably find it a bit disconcerting.
Not really no.

I doubt I'd get upset about seeing any image that I know has been displayed to me totally randomly, it's not like gravatar or AB would be purposely trying to offend me.
// Not really no //

You're jewish, and your avatar changes to a swastika, and you don't find it disconcerting? - Ok, I'll take your word for it.
Question Author
Good comments ludwig.

Perhaps Chuck is a Jainist and a swastika is a symbol of his faith.

here's a peculiar one I'd like to see an explanation for, Ron

http://www.theanswerb...o.uk/members/robinia/

As I see that page, the profile pic has a big avatar, and the first Q listed has the same avatar only smaller; all subsequent Qs have small jellypeople.

I don't know if it looks the same way on other ABers' screens

Very interesting jno.

Robinia is certainly being messed about.

Perhaps the Ed and/or Chuck have an explantion for you.

Ron.
Dear Jno,

One of the side effects of having our cache-busting url extension (the bit which says "&abrs4=[datetime]" at the end of the url is that we may end up caching old avatars for a period of time.
Why the big issue about avatars, its just a little picture, the site works perfectly well without them, take a break.

if you don't understand what chuck is saying, just accept that "you don't understand it" chuck is right!!

Now take a chill pill
I think Robinia's page has been that way for quite a while. So in effect, since November, the system has refusing to recognise her avatar for any question she asked before then.

A side-effect of Halloween, obviously. She must have told the Ed to get lost when he went to her door trick-or-treating. That'll learn her.
Question Author
Ratter15...I do not take pills for fear of side effects.

Ed....It seems to be that AB is suffering from side effects; as you have told jno. Furthermore, you have said that you are catching old Avatars. However they are not the one which ABers have submitted to Gravatar.

Perhaps next, we might suddenly find our user names being changed after we have posted.

I don't think you're listening...!
Cheers Chuck :)
Question Author
Ed..I am honestly listening. My fear now is that my Avatar may become ( I dread the thought ) something like this:-

http://www.flickr.com...60701/in/photostream/

Nevertheless, I wish to be the first, this year, to wish you a Merry Christmas.
