On my evening walk this evening aside a wetland bird reserve in Norfolk I saw two chicks in a tree that I first thought were young blackbirds. However, they were larger, had more markings on their faces and striped/speckled plumage. They made a throaty chuffing sound. I watched them for ages hoping the parents would come and feed them, but unfortunately had to give up in the end. I think they were fieldfares and have being doing some research. Apparently, although fieldfares usually just overwinter here they breed mainly in Scandinavia. However, some pairs do breed here.

Can anyone direct me to a good picture of a young Fieldfare on the web. I have bird books and have been looking on the web tonight, but can't be sure I am right. They were almost the size of a Mistle Thrush and had a fairly long sharp beak.

Cetti, are you about!!

Gosh that was quick Kosmic. Thanks. Difficult to tell from that because the two I saw were more advanced and had more markings.

Although they did have speckled chests like that.

Think now that they might have been Mistle Thrushes. We had some nesting in our garden about five years ago.

How wonderful Kosmic. I am a wildlife fanatic and luckily live in an area where I can indulge myself. I live only 1/2 mile away from a Owl and Bird of Prey Trust reserve. That's where I was this evening.

I have not got them up on a site. i will try and get them up on a site in the near future.
