strange afternoon

strange afternoon here, have had all the normal birds on the feeders but also on the table have had a herring gull , magpie , jackdaw and a rook , get the gulls in winter but not at this time of year dont know why they have been about today as its been a lovely day

Strangely, the gulls have gone from here, they spent all winter in the river, but now none at all, whereas last year they were always hovering high above watching for food. but did see two oyster catchers in a newly planted corn field, they were well busy poking their beaks into the soft soil.

things calming down now just the chaffinches ,tits and sparrows getting their supper now , as soon as its nearly dark the mouse will be on the peanuts getting his share

lol no , but the mouse is early as hes on the peanuts already cheeky little devil , the chaffinces keep chasing him off

Birds are so entertaining to watch.

While out on a walk today I watched a buzzard being mobbed off by a couple of rooks, they were quite relentless, I felt quite sorry for it.

our pair of buzzards seem to have gone, they were in the sky all day, and being chased by crows and even a sparrowhawk. The herons are back, standing dead still, looking like cardboard cut-outs. and we have the odd few egrets appearing.
Our garden is pretty devoid of small birds, just a pair of blackbirds and the odd robin and a tiny little bird, moves like a wagtail, won't stand still, has the colours of a sparrow.

Birds are indeed adapting to strange behaviour, ruthann. I now have a Jackdaw coming to the nut feeder every single day, but it manages to leave some for the Wood Mice to have their fill in the evening. You don't need TV with all the activity in the garden!
