a human trying to do an impression of an owl.
Two owls. According to a recent Bill Oddie bird-watching programme on TV, the first sound is one owl and the second is a different bird responding.
QM has just posted what I was about to reply.

As QM says the sound is made by a pair of owls - Tawny Owls. You can see and hear them on this RSPB site.

Yes it is a good site Cetti. You must have known that I collect all kinds of owls - of the rustic ornament kind of cousre. They are such fascinating creatures to watch & listen to, especially in the dead of night.
