For the past 3 days I have heard an unusual bird singing. I live in the east midlands, 2 miles from a city, in a wooded parkland. The sound goes: boinkg..boingk...boingk-------tiddly powy..tiddly powy...tidly powy.
Yes, I know this sounds barmy but it's the nearest I can describe it. I have checked RSPB site and listed to all of their sounds but none are even similar. It is driving me mad!

haha, I'm glad I'm not the only barmy one (must be the E Midlands thing, I'm from Derby)...my neighbour's good with birsong, I'll, erm, hum (?) that song to her if I can stop laughing & if we come up with anything I'll let you know Pendiz.
LOL Another nutter reporting here. I am now singing this outloud. I have no idea.

Have you tried the RSPB website. There are recordings of all british garden birds. However, I don't always find it very useful.

Boingk boingk boink tiddly powy.......................
I'm afraid I can't help you either Pendiz, but this tickled me:

;o}

If the third tidly powy is a typo and meant to have two Ds, it was a Purple Spotted People Eater.

If the third one definitely sounded like there was only one D, it was a Urple Spotted People Eater.

:)
I just knew Wildwood would have the right answer.

Have you got a picture of these two birds, Wildwood. I can't seem to find one.
Sorry Pendiz, I didn't read your question properly and realise now you have tried the RSPB Site. However, I don't think the birds Wildwood mentions are British

Are you sure though that they are birds? They sound mighty like clangers to me:

Lolol....I'm laughing my head off at your inventive ideas.
Sadly, none of them are correct.

Yes, the third 'tidly' WAS a typo, it should be 'tiddly'

Anyway, I am still being driven mad so, any more suggestions?
I find that sometimes this site is better for identifying bird song than the RSPB one http://www.garden-birds.co.uk/home.shtml
It's typical of a song thrush to repeat phrases as described, you can check it out at

Good Luck!
It took a while to get a good photo of one LL, but I finally surprised one this morning.

Here is the image of a Purple Spotted People Eater.

sounds like a song thrush they change the tune after about every three notes
haha...be afraid wildwood, that the PSPE doesn't now surprise you.... your days are probably numbered. :o)

Love the 'photo'...haha

No, I listened to the songthrush, it isn't like that at all.
The 'boinkg' is sort of echoey - it doesn't sound like regular birdsong at all.
Ha, ha Wildwood, but it's definitely not a PSPE, its........................................... Zebedee from Magic Roundabout.
