When people go fishing for tuna, they sometimes catch dolphins. Dolphins seem to have a lovely smile, but are still only animals. OK, McD's do not do dolphin burgers, but that is only because it would be bad PR.

Lots of us eat pork, but pigs are quite intelligent, so why the big concern over dolphins ?

because the human race is a finnicky thing that picks and chooses what it likes and dislikes.

pigs tend to be rather smelly and rather cumbersome whereas dolphins are graceful and elegant.

Cats and dogs are animals too (and cute little bunny wabbits). Are you suggesting we should also enjoy the occasional canineburger or feline fingers instead of fish fingers?

Pigs are bred especially for the meat market and if there is a shortage we simply breed some more. Dolphins are wild animals and can not be bred in captivity to maintain the present captive stock, let alone extra ones for food. Most dolphin species are in decline and a few are endangered.

Now, if you were to suggest politicianburgers you might get a more positive response.
Dolphins are also supposed to be more intelligent than us, so what gives us the right to kill and eat Dolphins, come to that any animal. We all have a right to be here.
but if they were more intelligent than us then they would now how to avoid fishing nets etc, surely?

I agree that they are intelligent but perhaps not in such a wide range of ideas and concepts.
Prob right there tigersam! Who knows how they use it, but I certainly wouldn't want to eat them any more that I wish to eat any other animal.
dont mind a bit of meat but cant say that I would be too keen on Dolphin. Not a lover of seafood in general anyway.

BTW Wildwood, a policitianburger???? Really???? Dont you think that it would cost you a fortune and leave with a feeling of not worth the money?
"Only animals" says it all that doesn't it.

Dolphins, albatrosses, badgers, you name it, anything that gets in the way of humanities greed for resources and it's "too bad, so long suckers" normally.
Thankfully the environmental movement is getting stronger and stronger and can step in and help some species.
Yeah-they're only animals.
mammals actually!

Fair comment Wildwood, but I have tried dog - not in England, it must be said, A fairly good reason for not eating it is that it tastes terrible.

WW, The tricky thing with politician burgers is that they would be greasy, nasty and full of hot air.
are dolphins animals or mammals?

Cross questioning with another subject on this site - how many people here think abortion is alright at some stage, but doing horrid things to animals isn't ?

I do not fancy knocking off all the dolphins for the reasons Wildwood gave, but if absolutely necessary and in extrememe circumstances would eat it, but have never been in a position where it has been necessary.

I cannot agree with environmentalists who attack people to protect animals ( ok, wrestling a bit to prove a point would be ok, but weapons, blunt instruments and kicks to squishy bits are going a bit far).

Animals do not have the same rights as people.
