wasps nest

I had noticed a couple of wasps in the garden over a period of time and they seemed very intesrested in the door leading into the garden shed. I opened the door to investigate and on the floor was what looked like a coil of wood shaving about 4cm accross. i pulled in out (using a broom) I'm assuming it was a nest but i don't know. If it was will they build again or will they go somewhere else?

If the 'wood shaving' was papery, it could well have been a bit of a wasps nest. Chances of a return by the wasps are 50/50.

My understanding is that they build a fresh nest every year. We had a wasps' nest in our roof & phoned the local council's pest control department to get rid of it because it was a hot summer, we needed all the windows open and we were being innundated with them. They recommended that we be patient and avoid paying the �30 fee as they would all die off when the cold weather arrived. So we waited. They all died off and didn't return.

A coil of wood shaving sounds about right, they do actually use chewed up wood, I'd say it was the start of a nest and most likely fell from the ceiling,which would be more usual, they can get about the size of a football. I recon they will probably start again somewhere else.
