I know some of you will disagree to me asking this but....I am going on holiday to tenerife and I have been told that they have a problem with cockroaches.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to kill them, or better still, repel them in the first place??

Hope so!!

Thanks

Cockroaches are an occupational hazzard in hot countries, and the native simply live alongside them.

The good news is, they like dark damp places with rotting food or vegitation, none of which you are going to encounter in your hotel, or the built up areas around, which will be cleaned regularly.

You may find the odd one wanders in, so have some 'kill' spray in your luggage, and ask reception to do a quick sweep of your room to make sure they are not moving in.

Plenty of people holiday on Tenerife, and don't see a roach for the duration, so it's nothing to panic about.

Have a nice time.

I went to Tenerife and didn't see one cockroach the whole time. I think they're pretty difficult to kill, unless you squash them completely into a pile of mush or use a special cockroach killer spray.

Any insecticide will kill cockroaches but they take ages to die from it and so you might think that you sprayed it but it had no effect, Give them a quick spray and they are ''dead men walking'' or as sammd said, flatten them!
One of the main prevention measures is not to leave food lying around to attract them, this includes the odd bits which fall on the floor and used packaging with the smell of food on it.
Abit of trivia for you ,a cockroach can walk around for a week after having its head chopped off ! so make sure you really flatten it .
