Every Now and then I get worm looking things come out my chimney at home and decide to crawl about the living room. They're about 3 inches long have a quite hard skin with lines all the way down they're body like a maggot but a light orangey kind of colour. Anyone know waht these are or come across them??

Dont worry I know now. Have looked it up. And its mealworm, The birdies eat these and I think are dropping them down my chimney. In the summer they turn into black beetles which I have seen also in my living room. Wouldnt mind but the worms are huge. Euuughhhhh.
Sounds like an episode of an old Doctor Who!! Eugh!
How come you sound so cool when talking about mutant worm falling down your chimney and crawling into your living room 4getmenot? I would be terrified and move out! I'm such a wuss, I haven't even got a chimney but that has scared me.

You'd probably be even worse then because I put my socks on this morning and walked around on one for about half hour thinking I'd just got a piece of paper stuck to my foot!!

Just wondering whether your fireplace is open or do you have a gas/electric fire in it? Might be worth having it removed to take a look what's happening behind it.

Hi there, my boyfriend is a chimney sweep and reckons you've probably got a birds nest stuck up and as the birds are feeding their young, these worms are ending up in your living room. He recommends getting it swept as this should put a stop to it :) if you're in our around the Leeds area he works up here or if you're in or around east sussex or west kent area then his father works down there doing the same job! Hope this helps!

Thanks all for your answers. Goodsoulette I dont really understand your post and wildwood they grow up to 5cm long so give me a few cms. And I live in an old house that is made up of flats so I cant get the chimney closed off. I have blocked it off with card in the living room but I have a vent at the back of it where some creepy crawleys get out. It only happens every now and then and I now check my socks so no worrys. :-)

err.... 5 cm... yes.

3 inches(over 7cm)... no.
