I have been to many weddings and funeral buffets - mind you more funeral buffets. As I have been waiting in the queue for the buffet - I suddenly feel strange and at the last funeral buffet it occurred to me what the problem is.

I loathe and detest queuing for food - it truly makes me feel like Oliver Twist "please Sir can I have more" - also I get vibes from the servers they sh*it themselves if they run out of food.

Also some restaurants are now serving food on a bread/cheese board - get outta here. Plates for me. Rant over.

the Chinese hate it too - those at the front pile their plates up and it's a big no-no from a host's perspective to run out of food.....
That`s the reason I`m not mad on all inclusive hotels. Breakfast is bad enough, let alone having to do it at lunch and dinner as well
With my dad and uncles funeral we had a rolling buffet. No need to queue for food that way. Not the cheap option though, especially when there's about 500 people attending.

237 - never been to an inclusive so can't even offer an opinion. I better make sure tho next time I dine - I deliberately mention no breadboards etc. It is so unpresentional.
Question Author
Ummmmm - could you explain "rolling buffet" thanks
They keep bringing fresh food out until people stop eating.
Question Author
237 - friends have been to inclusives - never mentioned that to me - that would put me off - if I go on hols which has been quite some time - I like my waiter service.

Best service friends and I ever received was in what looked a downtrodden hotel in Jersey, channel islands many years ago . There was a waiter for every 5 tables - absolutely fabulous service - never mind the decor.
Question Author
Ummmmm - are the people seated
If they want to be. The place we had it had seating areas restaurant style and bar style tables.

Yes DTC - recall a wedding - fantastic day ie music etc. But it was a buffet and as you say first queuers filled their plate and much to the embarrassment of bride and groom about 40-50 did not get anything. I had forgotten about that.
I once went into a downmarket café and asked for a cup of tea. The girl threw a teabag into a not-too-clean looking mug, poured some hot water on and said, "30p, please." I asked if they did not have a cup and saucer.

"Cup and saucer? It's not the bleedin' Ritz!"

Ummmm - the seating would do me.

A cuppla weeks ago I brought my friend from Australia to a carvery one Sunday - and was expecting the queue. To my delight - waitress came over with the menu with the usual - turkey and ham, roast beef and fish. and it was served to us - lovely jubbly.
I try not to get too excited about this because when I attend a funeral I rarely go back to the after-event, but if I do, it is for a drink; not bothered about the food. What does irk me, though, is looking round at the end and seeing plates of half-eaten food lying around when some people have had none. As my mother used to say, "Their eyes are bigger than their bellies."
I agree jenny about serving food on wooden boards or slates -its unhygienic to me and totally not necessary.

The last funeral I went to was a nieghbour not family and they had miscalculated how many people would come to the luncheon buffet at the village pub -we were that embarrassed we bought food ourselves from the bar, but some people who hardly knew the deceased were piling up their plates like the end of the world was coming and they quickly ran out of food.
Professional mourners, Retro, like the late Blanche out of Corrie.

I guess that's one use for the coffin......

So true Jackdaw.

Some weeks ago I went to an oul dolls do in the afternoon. For about £3 - guy played the organ - excellent - food was served ie sandwiches, soup, sausages rolls etc. To my horror one old lady filled up a massive plate for all her friends in her group "it was mostly left" - however some of the group went up again and again. This is why I never I went back - what did the old lady do - when some of the soup was left over - she went back up to the tureen and poured the soup back OMG - never get over it.

I call this "the old women syndrome" - they won't pay a penny over what they have to do. Also to my dismay that day a friend of mine who is spending too much time with these oul days - when we shared a taxi for £3.50 - asked me for a pound - the other old lady a pound and so on and on. She has now got the "old women's syndrome" as she has literally came into thousands of pounds with the sell of a house and big inheritance and I know she still has it it is only months ago - she has now starting to say to me - oh God doesn't your money go - I immediately change the topic - cannae bear that talk.
Not a fan of food served on boards/slates but do say 'awww' every time I see a mini chip fryer basket.
I hate 'posh' restuarants where they are always on your shoulder filling glasses etc.
