Bang, bang round here last night, no warning, luckily cats were in, but hence one terrified Campbell cat for rest of evening, like a little rag doll and needing lots of cuddles.

I see the AB whinge-fest has kicked off early this year.
yes, all last week, the cats are terrified and wont go out, they miss the hunting at night ,but there are no half eaten mice on the lawn in the
morning.
I have to admit that I used to love going to the fireworks display. It is an even that is special and magical and fireworks should be kept for the few days around the 5th.

It is lovely to see younger children watching the display - they look mesmerised.
Sv..whinge-fest? Well if like me you only had fireworks at a certain period of time, one would be forgiven in thinking that being OTT and indulging in something that was reserved for a certain period in our history was out of place now taking place over weeks! Seemingly the OTT and self indulgent morons who partake in making life a misery for those people who have concern about their animals is wrong, according to some...oh to be in England...huh..not.nowadays thanks!!
Firework laws here
https://www.gov.uk/fireworks-the-la
The AB season for 'My Pet Hates fireworks' posts starts on the second week of October every year without fail.
Fireworks are sold 365 days a year by licensed retailers and online.
Fireworks can not be let off after 11pm except on Nov 5th when it is midnight ,Diwali it is 1 am and Chinese New Year when it is 2am.
If that's the case Eddie, why are foreigners allowed their 'celebrations' later than the indigenous people who may wish to 'celebrate' 5th November? Hell....tis not the land of the British any longer it seems!
About the only time that we have displays of fireworks is around May 24th when, thanks to Queen Victoria's birthday, we have a long weekend. I think some parts of Newfoundland still celebrate Nov. 5th..
24th May used to be Empire Day here and we got a half day holiday from school but that went out in the late 50s.
I just looked up "Victoria Day", and indeed it was once known as "Empire Day" here also.
The problem with the firework laws is that they are so difficult to enforce. If its not actually an adjacent garden, its very difficult to pinpoint where the noise is coming from even if its close and by the time the police did arrive, assuming they would turn out, the damage is done and the culprits back indoors. Last year we had a spate of single large fireworks being let off on the paths and in the cul de sacs of our estate well after midnight. Judging by the detritus and the noise, they were huge fireworks. I don't even think they stayed to watch the firework go as I went out a couple of times to see if I could catch anybody but there was no one to be seen.
They drive you potty. We don't have a hound anymore but he was terrified of them.
We once had a neighbour who used to have fireworks for every occasion, birthdays ,Christmas ,New Year, passing your driving test, and on and on .In fact I think if someone farted he would send a rocket up :)
Thank God they moved away .
Our local council squanders money on the clifftop festival every week in the summer season when there are far more important things to consider .
Fireworks are Ok in controlled conditions ,displays etc for things like Guy Fawkes and New Year but otherwise they're a pain in the backside .

Agree with you shaney.
Are these terrified cats that same ones that kill all manner of wildlife when let out by themselves?
some fireworks last night the dog is not keen on the noise
Fireworks are let off by men who are really big kids - the types who get a b0ner when they put their foot down hard on the accelerator of their car
Nerds in other words Joe Luke....
Fireworks go off regularly near me - any occasion seems to merit them.

Growing up, we had many dogs and were very lucky all of them didn't mind the fireworks at all, a couple as others have said loved to find the best vantage point to watch them.

Must be awful if you have nervy pets.

Ozzie my big black Labrador loves fireworks . I take him to a display every year. He gets very excited and try's to chase the rockets. Then he is from a line of gun dogs.
Wow woofy I am staggered you can give that much Melatonin to your dogs. I take only 1mg and that knocks me out all night.
Talbot I see from your post that you live on the Rhine and therefor are not troubled by the fireworks,
.
How about the Sirens though !!! :-)
