(04:34 on Mon 08/Aug/05) It may or may not be true, but I've heard that they do it to help soothe/prevent a belly-ache.

Mine does it when she has licked a lot of her own hair. Sometimes she sicks up the grass and the hair and sometimes it passes through her and gets rid of the hair that way. She also nibbles fresh shoot of grass and gorsebushes (!) and i think that she does this because she likes it. (For those who don't know, when gorsebush shoot are new, they are soft and not at all spikey)

My dog doesn't seem to eat grass  when she has a tummy upset though

(22:43 on Mon 08/Aug/05) I have two labs, male (3yrs) and female (12yrs). When we take them out Meg grazes on the grass while Jet charges about! its like having a cow not a dog!!

(01:27 on Tue 09/Aug/05) The cause and effect relationship in animals of eating grass and then vomiting is often questioned. No one has ever proven that dogs are intelligent enough to use grass as a medicinal herb, so those in the medical profession generally believe that dogs eat grass simply because they like the taste of it and that the vomiting just follows.

Therefore, it's unlikely that a dog will eat grass or other plants in the hopes that they will settle its stomach. Be aware, however, that some plants, or grass that has been treated with fertilizer or herbicide, can cause stomach upset or other problems, some of which may be severe.

(15:44 on Sun 05/Oct/08) They eat grass as it gets stuck in their throats and makes them vomit. When they vomit is also takes out the bug that upsets their tummys. Or they just do it because they're bored and want a bit of attention
