There are a couple of ways to stop it, but firstly: where is the litter tray? Cats do not like messing near their food. If it's next to their food bowl, move it! It needs to be in a quiet corner somewhere. Some cats are nervous when using a tray, in which case a covered one may help. Also, don't clean out the tray too often or too thoroughly, at least until your kitten is using it properly. They need to be able to smell it.
Okay, stopping it happening - try putting some tin foil down there. Cats hate the sound and texture. By far the best way though, is to put their food bowl in the affected place. As I said above, cats will not mess where they eat. Don't worry, you don't have to keep it there forever, just until there are no more accidents.
Lastly, when you clean the area, sprinkle some citrus juice around it (cats hate citrus) and do NOT use an ammonia based cleaner - all that will happen is the cat will mess there more frequently to try and cover up the smell.
