Having a Dalmation for a pet, especially if one lives in the city or suburbs, presents a number of problems.  The breed is very energetic, requiring a lot physical activity provided by the owner.  Dalmatians can be very unstable, due to inbreeding.  This is typified by grater than usual separation anxiety, when left alone.  The dog can be very destructive in this setting.  Dalmatians are known for their incessant shedding.  They, like other intelligent breeds, can be very stubborn and require a firm hand from the owner.. .. They are known for tending to deafness... On the other hand, they are, as mentioned, very intelligent and this makes for uncommon loyalty to its family.  It generally gets along well with other pets, but can be quite territorial.

Neighbors who have two of them enjoy them, but they live in the country and can provide open areas for the dog to exercise... Good luck!

deafness is a big problem with dlmations.   you would have to deal with a reputable breeder.   The kennel clubs are trying to breed this problem out of the breed.   deaf dogs should not be bred.

I know a dalmation breeder and she always tries to deter potential buyers who have young children because they are not very tolerant dogs and she has had 2 returned because they turned snappy with young children.

I know owners should keep their children under control but I still think its useful information!
