It's a Welsh poppy...they do self-seed like weeds! :o)

Perhaps mine are indeed Welsh poppies then - I didn't plant them so they don't have a history, they just appeared!

Californian poppies have a different centre to the Welsh ones, they are a slightly darker hue too.

So that's what they are! They come up all over my garden, and are so deep-rooted as to make digging them up a pain. Fortunately, I've found that Roundup does the business.
