I am sure the dog breeders on here will answer, but I believe that they are family names which track back their parentage, or have some other similar significance.
I'm not a breeder but my lab's breeder has a kennel affix which is a combination of her name and where she lives, the litter Lottie is from were all named after trees. Her pedigree name is Maple,so not that mad!
I've no idea how the choose them but some are real gems two spring to mind in pedegrees of dogs I used to own were
Treetops Pathrider Of Lochnell
Jan Of Xenondorff
I went for something far more simple
Ghengis Kane III
The KC added the III as there must have been others before.

Yes, most of the Kennel names are understandable - the ones I don't quite get are the actual names the dogs are given - for instance, my Belgian shepherd is Bxxxxxxxt Quichotte, which I've just googled, and it is a (Male) character in a French opera. Any breeders out there to explain this please?
Kennel affix's are sometimes an anagram of families names, or where someone lives. The rest of the name sometimes doesnt mean anything, but a lot of breeders will try to use a word from the parents of the dog, ie: one of my bitches has the word 'sky' in her kennel name, and so does every dog originating from my that particular kennel as the owners first breeding bitch was called 'Skye'.
As regards your own dog and the French opera, perhaps the breeders were watching it when choosing the puppies names, or it is a favourite opera of theirs.

Anything's possible - anyway thank you all for your answers.
We hope to start breeding next year when Keeva is 2 years old, the prefix for all of our puppies will be "Serene Hound" yet to be registered with the kennel club.
Some breeders have their kennel name and then name all the pups in their first litter with a name starting with 'A' (Alice, Angela), the second litter all the pups have a name starting with B etc. obviously when you get to letters like 'Q' it gets a bit difficult, hence your dogs name!

The Belgians have some really good ones, my Belgian was Dizzy Lizzy - rather apt as she was pretty Dizzy!!!

Thanks pasta - saved me writing it all again! I spend hours choosing names for my dogs and I have already chosen the name for a puppy thats not even born yet but coming in from Finland maybe next year - his name will be Marmalades Matt Finnish - Marmalades is the kennel name, the puppy's grandfather is Kenue Matthew and he is from Finland so it all fits if you see what I mean. One of my favourites is a Border Collie called No NZ Is Good News (when a lot of them were coming over from New Zealand and this breeder obviously didn't want a dog with NZ breeding in it). Another good one is a Dobermann called Nick The Biscuit and I remember a racing greyhound called Wot No Meat.
Matt Finnish- hahaha, brilliant; will he be rough or smooth haired; please say rough!
Ratter sorry to disappoint you but an affix or kennel name can only be one word, not two and I doubt if they would allow Hound unless you make it one word Serenehound. It takes about three months to get an affix so I suggest you start applying now - you have to give several alternatives too, and they pick which one they will advertise and if no-one objects then you get it. The KC have the facility to put in a trial name on their registration page, and it will tell you if that name would be allowed or if someone else has the affix or name already. Thats a good way of checking if your affix is already taken. Put in something like Serenehound Spot and if will tell you if that affix is in use.
My dog Caspar is called Kenmillix Shy Ghost on his papers...........
Out of interest I put in Serenehound Spot and there is no kennel name at present but they still have to approve the affix

So Caspar was born in 2006 then!
Yes lankeela indeed he was, and there's nothing shy about him!
Sophie I sincerely hope he will be smooth coated! If not I will have wasted a lot of money!
Good name for a Westie.
Aww that's a shame (for the comedic value anyway!)
