Good morning.
More and more questions and comments are being asked in chatterbank that should be asked in the appropriate category. Because of the Question or comment being put in this category it is much easier for the 'usual suspects' to mock and bully anyone who has not got the same opinion on the subject as them as mocking ,cheap jibes and bullying seems to be allowed and not moderated. On News and Body and Soul questions I would prefer to answer these in the correct category which is properly moderated When they appear in chatterbank it is open house for ridicule and bully boy tactics and will surely put off new members should they stumble on the mayhem looking for a serious answer.

Hi Retrochic, Not sure what you want us to do about it :-) We cannot stop users posting where they will and as many of your replies have stated CB does get a lot of traffic and stuff gets seen there. If we start being too heavy handed with the moderating then people will start leaving and the site will be sad :-( Please do continue to use the report function to bring...

Serious Questions Have No Place In Chatterbank

Nonsense. Chatterbank was brilliant once upon a time, serious discussion mixed with frivolity. The that the thread was about got covered and the OP got their answer...everyone was happy.

Unfortunately most of the ABers who used to contribute to those threads have left.
The *topic* that the thread was about .....
Who are the 'usual suspects'?
I would however agree that ABers who know each other will back up their mates even if they do not agree with them, but that says more about them than the ABer who is on the end of the ...er...............

Trivial questions have no place in 'News' but some ABers are far too important and intelligent to post their Snewsworthy questions in the right topic.

I'm sure the gossip shop AKA Chatterbank has its place but when something serious such as a health problem or News item is put on Chatterbank it is open to abuse as its not moderated as it should be. I've seem very innocuous answers zapped in a serious Category because they are not on Topic, while on Chatterbank it seems anything goes. If one does not want to subscribe to gossip and chortle splutter 'are you in my gang' mentality, then one can avoid Chatterbank, but if serious or interesting News items are put in there its a shame as it seems if one answers with either an informed opinion, or an opinion that differs from the OP they one opens oneself up for ridicule.

Quiz and Puzzle Questions, and especially Crosswords have no place in Offers and Competitions!

Not sure who this post is aimed at to be honest?

The OP for putting it in the "wrong" category?

The people who answer the questions with silliness?

The mods and Ed for not doing enough to squash daft answers?

Or all of the above?

Boo this post is not aimed at anyone ,-its bringing to the attention of the Editor what sometimes goes on in Chatterbank. If I was a newbie for example and stumbled on a question posted in Chatterbank instead of Body and Soul, it may put me off asking my question , or indeed answering one, because the tone in Chatterbankn is less serious, and sometimes very clique. Moderation is very laid back as its supposed to be light-hearted banter so no rules are technically being broken when people go off topic ar start ridiculing another member. If Chatterbank can be kept just that -inane chatter -great, then those who want serious debate on News or Body and Soul, with the appropriate moderation , can stick to those subjects.
I agree. The "usual suspects" as you say.
Ed or AB Auntie will normally move questions to the appropriate section if you request it via the 'report' facility.
If chatterbank is too much for you, Retro, stay away. I have a thick skin so the perceived cliques replies to me are water off a ducks back.

The 'Chatterbank' Topic Header

///Welcome To ChatterBank the home of natter and nonsense on The AnswerBank. You could ask serious questions here, but don't expect serious answers!///

Looks reasonably clear to me, so surely people posting there have an idea of what to expect?
And yesterday you complained about a thread in CB that was inane chatter and clogging up the page.

Strange...

Balsric -thats the whole point - Chatterbank is for chatting, not discussing Mental health issues or news items!
Why not?

Maybe the poster wants answers from the people that mainly post in CB.

Boo this post is not aimed at anyone ////

No ? Seemed to me to be aimed at "usual suspects", whoever they are.

Given the discussion this has opened up, maybe it would have been better placed in CB?
lol @ Balsamic.
