Serious Questions Have No Place In Chatterbank

Good morning.
More and more questions and comments are being asked in chatterbank that should be asked in the appropriate category. Because of the Question or comment being put in this category it is much easier for the 'usual suspects' to mock and bully anyone who has not got the same opinion on the subject as them as mocking ,cheap jibes and bullying seems to be allowed and not moderated. On News and Body and Soul questions I would prefer to answer these in the correct category which is properly moderated When they appear in chatterbank it is open house for ridicule and bully boy tactics and will surely put off new members should they stumble on the mayhem looking for a serious answer.

Hi Retrochic, Not sure what you want us to do about it :-) We cannot stop users posting where they will and as many of your replies have stated CB does get a lot of traffic and stuff gets seen there. If we start being too heavy handed with the moderating then people will start leaving and the site will be sad :-( Please do continue to use the report function to bring...

It does not matter which section you post in, it always goes into the 'latest posts' on the RHS of the page. If people keep contributing to the thread then it stays in latest posts and gets as much coverage as those in chatter bank.

But here is the problem, Retro.
http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Politics/Question1400647.html

I posted that in politics because it was the right part of AB to post it.
In news that would have got more replies because people click on news to see what has been submitted, rarely do they look at the sub topics.
If I really wanted more answers I would have had to bump the thread myself.
sqad has the gist of AB. (chatterbank )
I have taken the liberty of answering that one, Talbot. But you would have been better to use the word Ukip early on in the Q so it will show up in latest Posts and draw the crowds.

I certainly think Retrochic is big enough and has been on here long enough to be able to cope with a bit of 'gain-saying'.
I've never found her to be short of any sort of response or shy of giving her own opinion no matter what the subject.

AB is well-used by its contibutors and, in the main, questions in all sections bar Chatterbank are usually given the requisite amount of respect.

jackthehat its perfectly true what you say. Even your half- hearted attempts at derogation go over my head. This concern was not only about my experiences but about the fact that new contributors could be put off if they end up looking up a question that they think is serious and end up on chatterbank. I personally would prefer serious questions to be put in the correct category but it has been pointed out by other members and the Ed that people can put their questions wherever they like. Don't worry dear hart, I can look after myself and intend to, within the parameters of the AB terms and conditions of course.
Jolly good.

Please do continue to use the report function to bring posts that break the Site Rules to our attention and we will look at each one on its own merits.

A story....

Someone posts a serious question in CB
Retro doesn't agree with them
The OP puts retro in her place
Retro doesn't like it

The End...
Thats life! it happens in all walks of life, not just chatterbank, sometimes we just have to suck it up and keep moving.
A couple of possibilities that the Ed might like to consider:

1. Provide the moderators with a link where we can, if we so choose, take a look at any recent reports of (alleged) inappropriate posting, so that we can then act if necessary (rather than having to wait until someone at AB Towers sees the report, as is the case at the moment) ; and

2. Empower the moderators to move a question to a more appropriate category.
I totally disagree with mods being able to move questions, can you imagine the chaos that would ensue. Their role is to moderate behaviour not edit the site.
Why would it cause chaos Prudie?
I think more powers to the mods will lead to more posters leaving.
Half the news threads are not news threads, B00.

The newscaster would cry if you moved their vip (very important post) to say..sport or chatterbank.
Errr why? we aint demons you know! We're just users like everyone else with a couple more buttons!
>>>can you imagine the chaos that would ensue

I can't see why moving a crossword question out of 'Family' (where it ended up simply because the questioner clicked on the wrong link under 'Topics') and into 'Crosswords', for example, would create chaos.
I don't see that Chris is proposing anything especially draconian, why would it cause posters to leave?

I'd like to see them armed with a compulsory "thank you" prod for some in crosswords though
Too many mods as it is. Innocent comments being removed for no fathomable reason..
Because everyone would be asking in CB 'where's my question gone on blah-blah'. There's no need to be so defensive, it's not a power you aready have that's being taken away :-)
