Serious Questions Have No Place In Chatterbank

Good morning.
More and more questions and comments are being asked in chatterbank that should be asked in the appropriate category. Because of the Question or comment being put in this category it is much easier for the 'usual suspects' to mock and bully anyone who has not got the same opinion on the subject as them as mocking ,cheap jibes and bullying seems to be allowed and not moderated. On News and Body and Soul questions I would prefer to answer these in the correct category which is properly moderated When they appear in chatterbank it is open house for ridicule and bully boy tactics and will surely put off new members should they stumble on the mayhem looking for a serious answer.

Hi Retrochic, Not sure what you want us to do about it :-) We cannot stop users posting where they will and as many of your replies have stated CB does get a lot of traffic and stuff gets seen there. If we start being too heavy handed with the moderating then people will start leaving and the site will be sad :-( Please do continue to use the report function to bring...

I rarely answer serious questions in Chatterbank, am I bothered? No.

I do join in on Chatterbank, if I feel like it.
From Boo,
## Maybe the poster wants answers from the people that mainly post in CB. ##

I have been guilty of that sometimes, as I think the Chatterbank section gets more coverage than other subjects.
Or you need a quick answer.
That reply wasn't from me trt :-)
It was me :-)

Dr ummmm....
The cliquey people stick like glue on every thread they're involved in, regardless of topic or which category they're in, retro. Like Tablet & Balsawood said 'don't let it worry you'.
Retro, if you genuinely believe either you, or any other poster, are deliberately subject to mocking, cheap jibes, ridicule, bully boy tactics and slack moderation, in the general run of things you have two options. Either use the report button or email the Ed directly and put your concerns forward there.

Cyberbullying's a serious allegation that's been taken as such here in the past: posters have rightly been banned or suspended as a result.

On the other hand, if you're just unhappy about not winning hearts, minds or a debate and want to air a general grievance, fair enough, but I'm not sure there's a great deal anyone can do about it really.
Well said sven and Cucumbersoup.

I actually thought you were made of sterner stuff, Retro.
Cucumbersoup....that made me laugh.

Are we allowed to laugh on this thread?

Only in retrospect!
I never ask serious questions in CB. I only ever ask daft questions. I am quite happy with that.

Humbersloop, I have reported people and their comments have been removed but reports of unacceptable behavior on chatterbank are completely ignored.

Unlike a few on here I actually don't hang on every word and don't class it as a set of friends. For me its a distraction while sitting in my shop. Nothing said to me bothers me with the exception of one poster who basically insinuated I was far to well-heeled to have suffered from depression. The personal jibes I think say more about the jibers than me and frankly a personal jibe from a stranger means nothing and I certainly don't want or need to be popular as I kinda have a life outside of AB.
If everyone who wants input or to answer a question, stops doing it because its been posted on Chatterbank, then AB will decline. Again, a serious question posted on an Editorial thread declines into personal jibes. Ho Hum
I'm a bit lost on what you're saying but CB is clearly defined as a place of potential nonsense, compared to what it used to be it's a soft play area. There are some users who will only post in Chatterbank whatever their question or comment because that's where they get the responses from the people they want to hear from, you can't beat them so let it wash over you. The topics are generally well moderated, CB is already over-moderated in my opinion.
Agree Prudie...
Retro....my darling.

I have a certain amount of sympathy for your post.

However, there is and always has been a certain amount of resentment, borne mainly out of jealousy which is permanently "simmering " below the surface in certain areas of AB. It has a "clique" nucleus and if you are in their sites, they will get you one way or another and in whatever part of AB be it CB or News or wherever.

An ideal time and a perfect medium to "settle old scores."

AB has always been like that and always will be but i have to say that it is not as bad as it was some 6-8 years ago, due mainly to some being banned, some leaving of their own accord and believe it or not, a couple being promoted to Mods.

Retro....deal with it in your own way, even if it means a "stay in the dungeon."

If you want maximum exposure to your plight, whatever it may be, then go Chatterbank....that seems to be the rule here.
Perhaps we should have sub divisions for CB.
