how to view laptop on TV

I want to view my laptop on the TV via a HDMI cable and as far as I can see all I need to do is join them together with the HDMI cable but when I do the laptop is not visable!!! is there something...

anybody know how to get old masking tape off car paintwork? tape that has dried and gone hard ! I've tried ''bug & tar'' remover and soapy hot water, any help would be welcome.

skype icon ???

since I installed ''Skype'' on my desktop I have a skype icon in the command bar (top right corner) and can not get rid of it.........I have tried every thing anybody got any ideas ???
