petrol engine cutting out at speed.....any ideas?????

im hoping someone can help me fix a problem on my F reg 1.6 cavalier. apart from a bit of 'mayonaise' in the oil filler cap, it seemed to be running sweet. it was fine until we opened it up a bit...
