Slow internet

I have recently bought a new laptop with Windows home premium installed every time i try to go on the internet it takes ages to connect and to find what i want. Please can somone help

slow internet.

I have a BT broadband connection, my internet has been running slow the past couple off weeks so I did one of those connection speed tests and it came back saying 124Kbps, that to me seems a low speed...
