squeeky steering wheel

i have a 99 vectra and the steering makes a squeeky noise as i turn it it is pas but its annoying that this noise occurs whilst turning the wheel any ideas/

Can anyone give me a clue about this please. my car first started cutting out about a week ago, when I was reversing, I dipped the clutch to put back into 1st gear, the engine just died, it took ages...
