1/3 off screen not working

as i have all ready stated that the right hand 1/3 of the screen of my compaq presario 1500 has stoped working a very smart mate told me the same happened to him the temp answer is press the screen...

only half my screen is working on laptop put another screen on it is ok is the screen finished ? how to fix? how much does a repair like this cost
