Why does my shower smell?

I had an ensuite made by dividing a bathroom with a stud partition. The shower drains into the bathroom drain. There is an awful smell of bad eggs in the en suite which seems to come from the shower...

curtain poles and crumbling walls

I am trying to put up curtains in my son's bedroom, but the wall just crumbles when we try to drill into it. I have tried screwing into the wooden window frame too but it's not deep enough to hold...
