Cheapest and easiest often don't come together i'm afraid. Easiest option is one of the meet and greet services where you can drive directly to the terminal and avoid the whole car park and transfer bus situation but these usually cost slightly more. That said, the difference in price isn't always a huge amount from the standard park and ride services.
We always use Long Stay Plus. The transfer takes only minutes on arrival and return. Don't consider the extra cost for Greet and Meet type service to be neccessary.
I've used these people in the past:

Hi Lankeela.

Money saving suggestion number 1:
Don't take the car! You'll probably find it much cheaper to use the train. (From central London, don't use Gatwick Express from Victoria. Instead take the First Capital Connect service from London Bridge; it's far cheaper).

Money saving suggestion number 2:
If you need to stay at a hotel overnight, to catch an early morning flight, look for one which offers on-site car parking while you're away (with a shuttle service to and from the airport). That can work out far cheaper than paying for your hotel and parking separately.

Money saving suggestion number 3:
Use a dedicated price comparison website

but then, when you've found a possible company to book with, google 'review xxxx' (where xxxx is the name of the company) to find out what others think of their service.

If its any help Lankeela we've just booked hotel (as we have an early flight)and parking for a week at Gatwick for around £70 at Premier Inn, which is only 2 miles from the transfer place to leave the car and get the shuttle to the terminal.

Thanks all, panic over, got someone to drive us now! However the Premier Inn option looked good, so will remembr that for next time.
We use Gatwick regularly, and we have found APH very useful - they are on the East Grinstead side of Gatwick which is useful for us.
