Has finally finished her PhD thesis... after months of long nights, too many ciggies, crap food and very, very little sleep. The next step is her viva-oral defense of her subject- in a few months time.
I just thought I'd be a proud mum. :-)

Wonderful - please tell her well done from me xx
Nice one pasta! You put the ground work in when she was young, all pays off x
good for you and her. What's the subject?
Congrats Pasta. I'd be a proud mum too :)

Her subject is chemistry...renewable energy. All way beyond me. Gets it from her dad.
The trick in successfully getting through a viva, as I found out, is to write your thesis on a subject which the examiner knows absolutely nothing about. (In my case, diophantine equations). That way it's almost impossible for them to trip you up during the viva ;-)

(Congrats to Lil Pasta, BTW).
PS: When LP gets her PhD, who will be first to ask "Is there a doctor in the house?" (Someone always has to!)
;-)

Or...they start asking advice on "wind" or fungal nail infections....:O
Congratulations to Lil Pasta, she will sail through her viva
No problem with that Phd-asta.....

The viva, depends on who examines her, believe me.....I got someone from whom I had borrowed his raw mapping data back in the mid-60s, a Prof at Glasgow Uni....the Viva Voce went on 4 hours, the first 45 minutes in the examination room, the rest in the pub - and I was the last interviewee of the day, for good reason, his reason.
his data was the mid-60s, my work in the late 70s/very early 80s.
