Is there a site with listings of previous UK top 40 singles charts, particularly for october this year?

Alas, no. The Official UK Charts Company is known for its heavy-handed approach with anyone it thinks is breaking its copyright, particularly with regards to reproduing entire charts.

This site has information on when records entered the charts and how long they stayed there. http://www.martinsmusic.freeserve.co.uk/ I can also recommend Mark Goodier's hit singles book, which has monthly charts from the UK and the USA going back to the 50s. However, it only comes out every couple of years so it won't have your October request in for quite some time. Perhaps if you have a specific question on a record that was in the chart at that time some kind AB-er will give you an Early Xmas pressie in the form of an answer?
