I'm trying to fix the error "Windows was unable to complete the format" for SD card.
The SD card is 32GB and has been used on my phone for two years. I insterted it to computer for backing up photos, but it can't be opened and said it was not formatted.
I didn't know what to do, just try to format it. Unluckily, I even failed to format it as it reported "Windows was unable to complete the format".
are there any solutions that can fix the error and save my SD card?

If you format the card everything on it will be deleted, including your photos.

I believe a 32GB SD card is really an SDHC card and it may be your PC cannot read SDHC cards with such a high amount of memory.
If you havent yet resolved this issue yet - go into windows explorer and right click your card - click properties and click tools then error checking. Do they still put a little protective switch on the side of cards to prevent accidental formatting or erasure.
May it is damaged. Your SD card is kind of old. if you can retrieve data from the card, then just buy a new one.
I'm not sure whether your card can be repaired or formatted with solutions for the moment. but you can have a try with these steps:
Method one:
1. Go to Disk Management.( Right-click My Computer>Manage)
2. Right click the drive and select New Simple Volume. Then follow the wizard.
3. The the drive will be formatted.
Method two:
1. click Start button> type cmd in the search both and press Enter
2. Type diskpart on the black windows and press Enter key
3. Continue typing disk 4. Type create primary partition and hit Enter
4. type in Command Prompt format /FS:FAT32J

DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD - you will lose everything on it. a 2 year-old card is NOT old.
I think that VHG probably has the answer in that it's an SDHC card and your computer card reader can't cope with it. Try it in another computer. Also, as ukbod says, check the safety switch on the side is in the right position - it's there to prevent over-writing but one of my computers won't read a card with the switch in the "safe" position and the other one will.
