This is a serious question,for some time now I've had trouble getting to grips with certain aspects of GIMP 2.8.So as usual I've turned to you ABer's for help.But for all the queries I've put in I've had so few replies,is it the way I put the question or is Gimp not very popular?

I have no idea what, Gimp is. Sorry.
Me neither . Sorry.
GIMP is a a photo retouching app that runs on the GNU/Linux operating system.

Life is too short to struggle with unsupported software on an open source platford.

I think Buenchico knows about it, so you might be lucky and catch his eye.
There is/was a Windows version. I downloaded it but never got around to full install for some reason. That particular PC was Win XP and it isn't allowed on the unternit any more, making updates and support requests awkward.

@codswollop

It is bound to have its own support forum which would be the logical place to start. If not, then google a longish phrase describing your problem and see what Q&A websites show up.

I use GIMP but I wouldn't claim to be an expert. (I've also got Photoshop 6.0, which is generally what I turn to for complex image manipulation) . Your queries seem to relate to a particular plug-in that most people probably wouldn't use (and I've certainly never used), so that might be why you're not getting replies.

Thank you all for your replies it certainly bears out my thinking on the matter
Have you tried Paint.Net http://www.getpaint.net/index.html ? It contains all the editing functions that most people need and I always find it to be more straightforward to use than Gimp.

I do have Paint Net,but have seldom used it.Gimp 2.8 was being touted as the next best thing since sliced bread so I thought that I'd try it. But........
Have you tried the Gimp forums for help?
