So how does Cameron intend to persuade those who are just going to be 'cannon fodder'?

We have seen well educated people of both sexes who have found the allure of travelling and a better life convincing. It is not naivete that has convinced them to go, it is far more than that. The Government is dealing with a force who cannot be reasoned with by dialogue and there can be no pussyfooting around. There should be no division between the political parties - it's high time more was done.

If already convinced it is probable his words, will only be dismissed by those who see the ISIS as some kind of force for good. The communities need to prevent the indoctrination in the first place. Admittedly difficult when access to social media and propaganda that can be placed there is so easy to come by. Maybe it would be wise to ensure they all hear the words of those who were foolish enough to go, yet courageous enough to escape back.

If Cameron thinks would be recruits are not aware of these possibilities then he is surely mistaken but there again is he saying that boys will be brainwashed and girls not?

He talks about the necessity to 'de-glamorise' the extremist cause but this isn't about glamour. These people are not devoid of intelligence and I don't subscribe to the brainwashing theory.

Hundreds have bolted already with many of their families left shaking their heads at the shock moves by their offspring. How is the Government going to have an impact? The speech will be interesting but trite, bland statements wont be of any deterrent. It is far more profound.

Who thinks that we (the public) get the full story about the Government's strategy and policies concerning our hostile enemies?

Who actually believes that the stuff we see in the Press is the real picture?

I hope ... I really hope ... that the Prime Minister's real dealings regarding ISIS are not being published in the Press, for the edification of you, me, and the terrorists.

I telly hope that we know absolutely nothing of what is really going on.

Because knowing nothing of what is really going on, is the only way that I will feel that we are really safe.

Wouldn't sending 'boots on the ground' be using our troops as cannon fodder, or are they more expendable?

They are part of the whole, not seen as expendable in the sense that there is a section that just gets used because they are not really 'one of us'. Simply used as the suicide bombers. When you are an equal part of the whole force you are not cannon fodder to detract from a self selected elite doing the potential '"glory" & survive' stuff.

The essence of "cannon fodder" is that you get killed before you've even got within range of the enemy and thus had no opportunity to inflict casualties. You cause ammunition to be expended and may help save the lives of colleagues in the follow-up attack but even that is not guaranteed.

The logic of the suicide bomber and turncoat attacker suddenly becomes apparent: still certain to die but in such proximity to the enemy as to take many of them with you.

I don't know what the Islamic equivalent of the Pearly Gates is but, if suicide is a hell-ticket then there is a direct conflict between that and "death in battle". Technically, the explosion is microseconds before the infliction of casualties so they lose.

Tough luck, suckers!

Exactly, so the fear of death is not the issue so what is? The PM could use any adjective he wishes but it will have no effect. By making statements such as he has is further music to recruiter's ears.

In fact, it could have the opposite effect for the waverers who already see that Cameron is out of touch with them and actually give them greater resolve.

I think the funniest one so far was the one where he was welded into a truck, cobered in metal plate, which he drove into the wall of a prison. Didn't inflict any casualties, so no 72 virgins for him. The hole in the wall wasn't big enough and the prisoners had to escape by some other route.
