Just because some mentally disarranged person has committed a horrific crime, is this a sound reason to no longer fly the historic Confederate flag?

Why do people of a left wing persuasion enjoy banning things so much? Flags, words, individual freedom, enjoyment. You name it, if it ain't nailed down, they'll ban it.
Thanks for the picture Broseph we have people wearing uniforms like you depict in the UK now but I believe they are mostly women ( it's difficult to tell )
Even sensible Republican politicians realise how contentious this is: Jeb Bush has suggested it should not be flown and John McCain years ago actually condemned in as racist. He later admitted that he had to backtrack to have any hope of getting anywhere with the Republican nomination
Anyway, as someone who comes from a country that has been mocked for its obsession with flags, it's nice to see that even the USA has its flag controversies !
Svejk, it's to do with their hatred of "non approved" views and their unswerving adherence to their own beliefs. That is why any sort of deviation in thinking is shouted down with their standard set of insults. Why would you want to fly the stars and bars? to them there can be no valid reason.so to protect themselves they must ban it so those incorrect thoughts do not spread too far. Of course in this case the whole thing is amplified by the fact it is a "redneck" flag, double bubble for yer lefty.
yikes 250 y ago ?
sorry that was a knee-jerk reaction

The main Confederate armies, the Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee and the remnants of the Army of Tennessee and various other units under General Joseph E. Johnston, surrendered on April 9, 1865 (officially April 12), and April 18, 1865 (officially April 26). Other Confederate forces surrendered between April 16, 1865 and June 28, 1865.[7]

I hadnt realised that confederate armies surrendered piece meal
but the whole confederate war effort was a bit of a shower
//You obviously do not have a sound in depth knowledge of the flags history,it's links to the kkk and slavery.//

And so is the Union Jack and the FRench Flag and the Dutch and the .......
(Slayvery not the KKK of course)
America needs to take head on its racist past, and this flag belongs in the past. Its become a symbol of white supremacy and its time to move on.

I was howled down on this site a few days ago, for correctly saying that the attack on the church was a racist attack. All the evidence at the time pointed towards the racist motive, and more evidence has emerged since. Yes, he was mentally deranged, but he was a mentally deranged racist.

The American Civil War was mainly about the southern States wanting to retain slavery, and its high time that this flag and everything associated with it was consigned to the historical dustbin.

/// If people want to fly it at their homes then that is fine, but it has been adapted by white supremacists rather like the extreme right in the UK have latched on to nazis iconography. ///

I thought it was the St Georges flag that the Far-right were accused of high-jacking, I find little evidence of them latching on or using anything attached to the Nazi.

You are not suggesting that the English flag should no longer be flown from church towers etc?

Bang go the Southern States.
Nonsense AOG ! The Southern States lost the Civil War and black people are now equal to whites. Most in the South have accepted that but there are still a lots of nutters who haven't. They need to get real !
The confederate flag means more that slavery to most people in the Southern States, it is their flag, much like the Welsh, the Scottish and the English like to retain theirs.

The English flag is always associated with far right groups, usually by right-on lefties, so should that not be flown? (No doubt the anti English will say yes)
Have you ever been to the Southern States or worked with people from there?

From your comments, I wold say not Mickey.

You accuse me of being nonsensical.

Wasn't it you who put this?

*** and its high time that this flag and everything associated with it was consigned to the historical dustbin ***.

I was merely pointing out that the Confederate flag is associated with the Southern States.
Of course the flag is associated with the South ! Its the flag that was raised because the Southern States refused to end slavery. That is what started
the Civil War, the breakaway States lost, and now slavery is ended in all States. Its a divisive emblem of white supremacy and it has no part to play in the modern USA.

Germany doesn't fly the swastika anymore does it !
^Mickeys most definitely on the trolley
Better ban re-runs of The Dukes of Hazzard, too ...
