I have a letter asking me to pay an outstanding debt from "buymobiles.net", from Burlington group, client name "A1 comms Limited". First I've ever heard of them. Until recently I had a company phone and in the last 4 weeks I have moved to a presonal account with Vodafone. I am mystified. Anyone else had a letter like this? It has an 0330 number, I don't think that's a premium rate number. They have not explained any details at all, why don't they explain how the debt arises? I am religious in not getting into debt and find this sort of thing very distressing. thanks.

^^^Minor typo:
you = your
TTT, check if your company have any unpaid Vodafone bills or try to get Burlington to send you a copy of the unpaid bill.
>>>are the police interested in what is civil matter?

Fraud (via ID theft) isn't a civil matter!

The police should be interested in it, although they might well do nothing more than direct you to this website:

If you look at my link there is a call-back option.

Are you able to tell me what happened with this? I've just found your post after receiving a similar letter.
I was hoping there was a resolution to this issue too.
Question Author
well I left it when that idiot bouncer got involved.
Understood in that respect, was more hoping you had a resolution to the issue raised in your OP, but ta for returning anyway.
Question Author
ok I did get to speak to someone and they emailed me the evidence from their client. It turns out that someone took out a phone contract on a PC in London, the original post code of the person was given and I have never even been there. I explained it all in a letter with copies of all they sent me and I have heard nothing back yet. All I can assume is that the preson has the same name as me and they somehow looked up the wrong address. I live on the South coast and the address they gave for the originator is a London post code.
Ah, so in this case sounds like an end to it - hope so.
Question Author
I hope so, I imagine A1 Comms are checking their details. The originator of this must have paid something using his own payment method, credit card etc so it should be easy to verify the adress mix up. I hope so anyway.
I hope so for you too - hopefully it will give guidance to emljames above too.
