I've just bought a new camping hammock which attaches to trees by means of a piece of parachute cord at either end.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of a good knot to use to tie the hammock to the trees.

I seem to remember in one of his programmes Ray Mears had a special knot for hammocks, but I don't want to fork out 20 for one of his DVDs or wait till its repeated on TV!

Or try the Falconer's Knot here.

Or a BOWLINE , easy to tie, won't slip and easy to undo, even if it's been pulled very tight.
A round turn and two half-hitches, or a clove-hitch...

I certainly would not suggest a Clove Hitch as this has a tendency to unwind itself.

Without extra support e.g. extra turns to make it a Rolling Hitch, it is untrustworthy in any situation, except as a crossing knot.

ah! all favourite firemans knots eh?

Bowline. As the previous poster said easy to tie. Wont slip and easy to undo. It's my favourite.

Will

...but unless you use a Running Bowline how do you tighten the bight to the tree.
