It wasn't a 'blackout' but a moment of dizziness. I'm taking tablets to regulate BP. Could it be they're working too well? Is a visit to the GP called for?

No.

Don't jump out of bed, sit on the edge of the bed for a couple of minutes and then get up and move off.
Did you get up "real quickly" after awaking or sort of meander out of bed.
If it was the former I'd just get up a tad slower. If it was the later keep a check on yourself and if it happens again consider a trip to the quack.
ps: I'm on blood pressure tabs too, only a light dosage though. If I move into action too quickly I get a slight dizzy feeling.
Hmm. just saw Sqad pop in, I'm sure he has a better reply ;-)
Not necessarily decrepitude, Sandy. I've had the same problem since I was 14. The doc advised me to do what the others have said about getting up slowly. He also advised me to jiggle my feet about a bit before moving from sitting to standing.
Sandy, general advice we used to give people who suffered from benign postural hypotension for whatever reason is to make circles at your ankles and clench and unclench your buttocks while you are sitting on the edge of the bed.
My solution would be for you to get a cat. Frankie sleeps between and the side of the bed. It is actually quite difficult getting past him to get to the edge. It slows down the whole process of getting out of bed.
You could try it with your dog but they tend to be more willing to please their human friend. Cats don't really care about us as long as they are fed.
