The people who placed bets on Charlotte are going to be grinning from ear to ear today.

But what I don't understand is this...how did that name become the bookies' favourite?

Surely the name would have been a closely guarded secret - so how did it become the favourite?

It's predictable though, Charlotte has been a princess's name in many past generations.
pure guesswork, I expect. Rather than the bookies being influenced by some sort of leak from William and Kate, could the reverse have happened - the couple look at the bookies' list and think "Well, that does sound rather pretty"?

Or perhaps they just have the same taste in names as the general public.
The parents probably tipped-off the workers in the palace who are on minimum wage, to supplement their poor wages;-)
I did wonder myself how the media knew that Charlotte was one of the popular names.
Bookies are very astute!
Charlotte was the name of George 111's wife and also the daughter of George 1V so it has been a royal name for a long time.
Seems a bit mad to me.
