Erection would my preference

hmmm, a hard decision
Recondite, of course, as it has nine letters.
wouldn't have spotted recondite but erection stands out

however, i don't know what the fuss is about - 'erection' is not a rude word
Surely 'erection' would have been more noticeable than something as obscure as 'recondite':-)
I haven't seen that episode yet, but "erection" comes up quite often. (No pun intended). I don't know why the fuss this time.
Quite recently, according to a newspaper, s h I t f a ce d was given as an answer, but the contestant was told to submit another word.
do you think hapax legomenon will come up any time soon?

Rrrrrrrrachel. :-)
It seems to be when Dr Phil Hammond is on that certain words get noticed more than usual. He seems to like saying "undies" and "panties" quite a lot.

Sometimes an answer is, as we say here in NI, 'Sticking out'. The 17:54 one fits the bill and is awarded BA.
Question Author
the 19:54 one
from the article: // In 2010 the presenters were left red-faced when the letters U, D, F, C, K and E all came up in a selection but the contestants resisted the temptation to go for the obvious and instead submitted the five letter words caged and faced.//

am I the only one to notice that 'a' ISN'T in the selection,
and the obvious one is six letters ?

and " hapax legomenon " [ (thing having been) said once ] came up on university cack up , didnt it ? The clever one from Gonville and Caius got it

I would have elected, 'erection' - recondite is too.... recondite
