Formula can cause constipation but not having pood since last thursday is excessive.

Are her nappies still wet?

You could try giving her a bottle of cool boiled water with 1 or 2 teaspoons of freshly squeezed (not carton) orange juice in it. No more than that though or youll be clearing poo up for days.

If you dont want to do that or if it doesnt work then call your GP or health visitor as they can give you something to help.

she doesnt drink the formula just barely tastes it. yes her nappies are still soak. Guess what the health visitor just rang and i told her - she will come see me tomorrow.

my child releases wind quite often today so lets hope she poo later. she is sitting quite comfortable in my lap now wit her bright eyes.

thank u

Whilst waiting for your HV to visit tomorrow you could also try to get some cool boiled water into her, either a couple of ounces in a bottle or just use a clean teaspoon and allow her to drink off of it.

Just some extra fluids may help her.

I hope she feels better soon

One of the amazing things about babies is their self preservation instincts. They seem to do everything to wind their parents up, but come to no harm. It's a good idea to drink more liquid, and to talk to your HV. However, these things do happen, and there is more to come (eating too much, not eating, pooing, not pooing etc etc). It's still brilliant though.

it's not at all uncommon for exclusively breast fed babies to go a few days between poos. My son did on a few occasions. This is because the breast milk is 100% useful nutirents, no fillers and processed stuff like in formula. So, baby can use, literally, every ounce of breast milk she receives, and so produce no waste at all. I'm actually quite surprised your HV didn't tell you this. I'm sure if baby is happy, everything will be fine...she'll let you know when she's not. xx

She is very happy so maybe she is really trying to frighten me(lol). i just gave her some water though - u should see her licking her tongue!!!!!!

Thanks guys.

Hi Yardie

I would just like to say that my son, who is now 11 months old was exclisivley breastfed up until 5 months and is still breast feeding now.

He also went for 7 days without pooing, and then would go every 3-4 days. Naturally my wife and I were worried upto this point he had been pooing 2x per day!

He was not constipated, well in himself and was very windy too!

I can tell you that as breast milk is tailored to the babys nutritional needs there can be very little waste at all.

Breastfed babies, who are breastfeeding ok should not neet any adidional liquids or feeds, so cool-boiled water and formula are not essential.

Breast milk will ensure your baby is fine nutritionally well and the poo will follow. It is virtually impossible for an exclusivley breastfed baby to become constipated.

hi jmahdavi

the health visitor just left and told me the same. she also told me about tipping a bit of orange juice from freshly squeezed orange and tip in water. i dont think i will do that yet though i will wait n see as baby is happy.

Hi Yardie

As I said to you before there is no need to give any orange juice and water as your child is not constipated. It is just that she is using most of the nutrition from the breast millk she is getting and as a result has no waste.

Giving her water with orange in would have no benefit as this is a remedy for constipation. As I said before hang in there. All the doctor would say to you, is if the cild is well in themself and they are still passing water ok, then there shouldnt be a problem.

Let me know what happens.

i didnt like the orange juice idea at all. Strange that a health visitor would tell u that. i know she definitely is not constipated and coos n plays a lot still. if she is uncomfortable trust me she would cry.

i will keep u posted. thanks a lot!!!!!!!!

Hi Yardie, my baby's record was 9 days but boy did it then happen! However, I don't think he was uncomfortable before then.. it's just I happened to be out when he finally did it!! He was exclusively breastfed so I think that's normal - your body produces breastmilk that's strong or weak enough to suit him so don't worry! If you think he is hydrated enough he will be fine and don't worry you can't overfeed him!

We went through the 7 days then a major clean up job, stage too
