The BBC have to be shown to be taking a stance, and if the situation is as has been reported, then they are right to do so.

However, anybody thinking this is the end of Clarkson on Top Gear are deluded fools.

Top Gear is the BBCs Golden Goose, and most, if not all, of the success of Top Gear is down to Clarkson.

If they sack Clarkson, and try to continue with Top Gear, it will fail.

They know that, so they won't do it.

I'm always amazed at the humourless who walk amongst us who hate Clarkson so much. Those that do must have to go out of their way to read what he writes or watch what he appears in, and if they are doing so, then they are idiots. It really is very simple, if people hate him so much, don't watch Top Gear or buy The Sun on Saturday, The Sunday Times, Top Gear Magazine or any of his books. If the people that hate him so much don't do any of these things, then why would they hate him so much? Its just, well, odd and a bit pathetic.

Well said Deskdiary.
Deskdiary - //I'm always amazed at the humourless who walk amongst us who hate Clarkson so much ... //

I don't think it's the large amounts of people hate Clarkson, rather more that his media grabbing antics generate opinions from people who's orbit he does not normally enter.

I do think you have to beware of excusing some of them more outrageous aspects of Clarkson's persona as being merely 'humorous'.

Taking offence at something that is said does not always equate with a lack of a sense of humour, any more than using the notion of intended humour is a get-out for being offensive.

Clarkson is aware of the controversy he creates - he is too intelligent not to be so aware - and in this instance, as I have opined on another thread, hubris has come to his downfall.
// if people hate him so much, don't watch Top Gear or buy The Sun on Saturday, The Sunday Times, Top Gear Magazine or any of his books. If the people that hate him so much don't do any of these things, then why would they hate him so much //

The way it works DD is that you have to do those things for a while in order to reach the conclusion he's an annoying tm4t, at which point you stop doing those things. But the thought that he's a twxt stays with you forever.
I suspect Deskdiary most of it is down to pure jealousy at his sucess.

Much of the hatred also comes from left wingers who see him has bringing down their beloved BBC (you know that well known neutral organization)

Some interesting snippets from sky (not a left wing organisation)
//The Top Gear presenter was suspended and the show put on hold after he allegedly tried to hit one of the producers at the end of filming in Newcastle.//

Tried to hit, so no physical contact being implied, just an intention.

//The producer involved in what the BBC called a "fracas", said to have been over a lack of catering, has been named by the Daily Mirror as Oisin Tymon, 36//

Not sure I would want to be in his shoes.

//It has emerged Clarkson's Top Gear contract runs out at the end of the month, making it easier for the BBC to part company with him should it wish to.//

Except I understand he owns half the company for Top Gear.

Why not bring back Quentin Willson?

Clarkson has a very large following, so far 130,000 have voted for him to be reinstated.

It was discussed on a radio show phone-in and the general consensus was that he was liked because he was his own man, who tossed aside all this PC nonsense, and they only wished that they had the courage to be like him.

Makes one realise how restricted in voicing our opinions we have now become.

350,000+ have signed at the moment AOG
Looks like it was a bit more than 'voicing his opinion' this time tho AOG.
Ah, Oisin Tymon, doesn't sound like a typical British name, so it is a wonder that Clarkson's fracas hasn't actually been classed as a racist attack.

Youngmafbog - he's sold his rites in 2012.
Oisin is either Irish or Welsh.
youngmafbog has brought politics into the discussion, and AOG has brought race, so we are all ticking along nicely.

Thanks for that, I was taking my figure from this site, the first one I came across with a mention of a poll.

And Andy-Hughes has brought in his usual confrontational criticism once again, so nothing charges really.

No criticism - just an observation.
It would be interesting if they held a poll to see who doesn't want him back.
Perhaps the ed could set one up .. for reinstatement or against ?
Looked like a comment to me AOG. You know....an opinion....the thing you try to champion on here. Freedom of speech - you're little axe which you rind so diligently.
